The lack of a cohesive national platform is indicative of the ineffective leadership of Schumer & co. This is something democrats have struggled with since Obama. They have a series of pitches to every interest group but no overall message of what it means to be a Democrat.

One really important point in factional disputes in the Democratic Party is that 'moderate/radical' and 'stationary bandit/ not' are fairly orthogonal. One key point with Mamdami is that he really genuinely isn't part of, or interested in helping, any of the well-established ethnic stationary bandits - hence the routine articles on him aggravating some fairly left-wing 'community group'. OTOH, Brandon Johnson is radical but entirely represents a subset of the existing stationary bandits.
