Eggs are very expensive right now. I initially suspected that I might be suffering from recency bias and forgetting some prior period of expensive eggs. But that’s not the case. While the egg market has certainly had its ups and downs, current egg prices are genuinely unprecedented in terms of both the real and nominal price and also the pace of the spike.
This is definitely annoying. A reliably inexpensive food is suddenly way more expensive, and naturally a lot of people are frustrated about that.
And I suppose that in the scheme of things, pretending that this is Joe Biden’s fault is not the craziest or most egregiously irresponsible thing that I have seen a House Republican do over the past 12 months. But for Kevin McCarthy in his pre-State of the Union Address to draw a connection between possible default on the national debt, disagreements with the White House about fiscal policy, and the price of eggs was genuinely absurd.
