James Carville praised Joe Biden for eschewing “faculty lounge politics” in an interview with Vox’s Sean Illing. That upset a lot of college professors, some of whom got very pedantic about faculty lounges, and many of whom seemed to understand Carville's point to be a criticism of college professors as excessively privileged.
Stan O., the poly-sci PhD-educated Research Director of California YIMBY who I like a lot on housing issues, tweeted that he is “begging the world to understand that the modal academic makes $50,000 a year at a public school you’ve never heard of and has absolutely no hope of ever getting tenure,” prompting the assent of Tulane political scientist Mirya Holman, who complained that Carville was unfamiliar with the facilities at an institution where he had, in fact, taught.
