Some exciting news for 2024: I’ve got a new podcast coming out soon! It’s called Politix and will be cohosted with
from Off Message.Politix launches in January and will run through the election, with new episodes available every Wednesday wherever you get your podcasts. Brian and I have been friends forever, and we’re looking forward to covering the 2024 race, trying to help people understand the stakes, and debating some of the ins and outs of the strategies and tactics at play.
I’m excited to get back to regular podcasting, and hope that you’re excited to follow along.
This election is obviously going to be high-stakes, and I think it’s worth putting some extra time into covering it, beyond what we can do at Slow Boring. Some episodes will be just me and Brian, others will feature guests — smart people who are hopefully a little outside the range you hear from on other shows. And this won’t replace any Slow Boring content, you can still expect five posts a week here.
That’s the good news.
The news you may be less excited to hear is that to listen to every episode in its entirety, you’re going to need a subscription.
We know that’s probably not what some of you were hoping for, but we want to do this right. Unlike the sporadic recordings I’ve released on Slow Boring, Politix episodes will have a real producer editing the audio and making it actually sound good. It’s also going to take more time and work from Slow Boring staff than our occasional interviews, and I didn’t want to raise Slow Boring prices, or reduce output, for a show that not all readers will be interested in.
But if you like Slow Boring, I hope you’ll at least check out the first two episodes, which will be free. In the meantime, if you have questions, leave them in the comments and we’ll answer as many as we can.
I get you doing a separate project with separate staff and separate subscription. What I’m a bit confused about using SB staff for the Podcast. Are they going to be paid extra for the work on the podcast ? How is SB subscription not essentially subsidizing the podcast without giving us the benefit? Wouldn’t it make sense, at the very least, to offer existing subscribers a substantial discount?
Will definitely check it out, but would honestly be more stoked for a Slow Boring podcast. There's a glut of election podcasting, less so with sober-minded-yet-entertaining policy deep dives.
